Sermon…………………………………………………Romans 14:5-9
One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

1. I Live, because My Savior Lives!
2. I Live my life to the Lord!

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Pre-Service Meditation – John 7:37-39

Opening Hymn 8 – “Father, Who the Light This Day”

Liturgy (Pages 5 in the front of the Hymnal)

The Scripture Reading – Genesis 50:15-21
Joseph serves here as a picture of our Savior, and as an example for each of us. In return for the hateful treatment he’d received at the hands of his brothers, he did not seek to get even. He instead showed love and forgiveness, as a reflection of the love that God showed him, and as a powerful witness to his faith in God.

The Scripture Reading – Matthew 18:21-35
Jesus teaches a lesson about forgiveness. We may say that we just can’t forgive someone for what they’ve done. But the forgiveness isn’t from us – it’s a reflection of the much greater love and forgiveness that God has shown to each of us!

The Apostles Creed (Page 12 in Hymnal)
I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn 591 – “Jesus, I Live To Thee”
