Opening Hymn 231 – “We Now Implore God the Holy Ghost”

The Invocation and Responsive Reformation Litany

P: “Unless I am convinced by Holy Scripture, my conscience is captive to the Word of God. Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise. God help me. Amen.”

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, as soldiers of the cross;
Lift high his royal banner, it must not suffer loss.
From vict’ry unto vict’ry his army shall he lead,
Till ev’ry foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

P: All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory.

C: This is most certainly true.

P: But God is truly merciful, and because of Jesus Christ, He freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins.

C: Here we stand; God help us! Amen.

P: From the bondage of Satan, sin and death, Christ has set us free.

C: This is most certainly true.

P: Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

C: Here we stand; God help us! Amen.

P: God sent Jesus Christ to be our sacrifice. Christ offered his life’s blood, so that by faith in him we could come to God.

C: This is most certainly true.

P: For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by the law.

C: Here we stand; God help us! Amen.

P: God gave Christ to die for our sins, and he raised him to life, so that we would be made acceptable to God.

C: This is most certainly true.

P: And now, because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God.

C: Here we stand; God help us! Amen.

P: You have been saved by faith in God’s grace.  This is not of your own doing; it is the gift of God.

C: This is most certainly true.

P: This is the true grace of God; stand fast in it.

C: Here we stand; God help us! Amen.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the trumpet call obey;
Stand forth in mighty conflict in this his glorious day.
Let all the faithful serve him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

Our Reformation Creed

I believe that God in love desired, planned, promised and carried out my salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.  I believe that this gift of eternal life comes to me only by Spirit-worked faith in the Gospel.  I believe that God has revealed all spiritual truth by His Spirit through His holy, inspired and infallible Word.  This is most certainly true.

God promises that His Word is eternal, powerful and effective and that He will preserve and protect His Word and His Church through all time.  As Satan seeks to destroy what God has created, God raises up faithful servants and leaders in His Church.  These “gifts” of prophets, apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers He has used to strengthen and renew the foundation and faith of His Church.  Jesus promises that the very gates of hell will not prevail against it.  For these and all other legacies and blessings of the Reformation, we lift our hearts in praise and thanksgiving.  Here we stand – upon Your Word; We cannot do otherwise.  God help us.  Amen.

Song of Thanksgiving (offering)
Pre-Communion Prayer and Consecration

The Distribution of the Lord’s Supper

(Because God’s Word presents the reception of this Sacrament as a most intimate expression of spiritual and confessional unity, we ask that only those who have publicly professed such oneness of faith and belief with us by membership at Berea or another CLC church come forward. Please speak with pastor if you are seeking a church home or have any questions.)

Song of Supplication (Antiphonal hymns)

P: Thine honor save, O Christ, our Lord! Hear Zion’s cries and help afford; Destroy the wiles of mighty foes Who now Thy Word and truth oppose.(265 v1)

P: Forgive, O Lord, our sins forgive. Grant us Thy grace and let us live.

Convince Thy foes throughout the land That godless counsels shall not stand.

P: Preserve Thy little flock in peace, Nor let Thy boundless mercy cease;

To all the world let it appear That Thy true Church indeed is here. (265 v5)

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction Amen
