Sermon: …………………………………………………… 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10
(5) [This] is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; (6) since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, (7) and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, (8) in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (10) when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. Hymn: ………………………………………… TLH 616: Forever with the Lord
Liturgy: ……………………………………………………………………. WS, p. 22 ff.
P: God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
C: If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
C: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
P: Let us pray:
C: Almighty God, merciful Father, we are sinful by nature, and have sinned against You in our thoughts, words, and actions. But we are sorry for our transgressions and pray You, of Your boundless mercy, to be gracious and merciful to us. Forgive us for Jesus’ sake, renew us by Your Spirit, and lead us in the way everlasting. Amen.
P: Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. We are forgiven. With boldness and confidence we may approach the throne to find grace to help in time of need. In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.
C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

First Reading: ……………………………………………………. Isaiah 65:17-25
A beautiful description of eternal glory is pictured in the OT by Isaiah.
Gradual:
P: Oh, come, let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
C: The author and finisher of our faith,
P Who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning the shame,
C: And sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
P: For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
C: That whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Second Reading: ……………………………………………….. Luke 20:27-38
Jesus teaches that in heaven, there is neither marriage nor death. Believers are sons of the resurrection, making God the God of the living.
Confession of Faith: ………………………………….The Apostolic Creed
C: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the Holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.
Hymn: ……………………………….. TLH 610: And Will the Judge Descend
