The Sermon: Matthew 10: 24-33 (NKJV)

24 “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! 26 Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.27 “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

Opening Hymn 875 “Father, We Praise Thee”

The Confessional Prayer

Responsive Reading of Psalm 46

Pastor: God is our refuge and strength,

Congregation: A very present help in trouble.

P: Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed,

C: And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

P: Though its waters roar and be troubled,

C: Though the mountains shake with its swelling.

P: There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,

C: The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.

P: God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;

C: God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.

P: The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;

C: He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

P: The Lord of hosts is with us;

C: The God of Jacob is our refuge.

P: Come, behold the works of the Lord,

C: Who has made desolations in the earth.

P: He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;

C: He burns the chariot in the fire.

P: Be still, and know that I am God;

C: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

P: The Lord of hosts is with us;

C: The God of Jacob is our refuge.

The Scripture Reading – Ephesians 6: 10-17

The enemy is powerful, crafty and superior to us in very way. Yet for us fights the Valiant One. We have an ally-Savior Whose superiority has been manifest from the very beginning and Who has given us His equally superior weaponry to take our stand and gain victory in Him.

The Apostles Creed (Page 12 in Hymnal)

I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.
