The Sermon: 1 Peter 2:21-25

21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: 22 “Who committed no sin,
Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; 23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Sung Stanzas (Hymn 725 – Children Of The Heavenly Father)

God His own doth tend and nourish; In His holy courts they flourish.

From all evil things He spares them; In His mighty arms He bears them.

Neither life nor death shall ever From the Lord His children sever;

His the loving purpose solely To preserve them pure and holy.

The Scripture Reading – Isaiah 53

The Nicene Creed (Inside Back Cover Of Hymnal)

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe one holy Christian and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hymn 718 – “Jesus, Lead Thou On”

The Offering

Our Communion Confessional And Preparatory Prayer [TLH Page 118]

C: O God, who desires not the death of a sinner, but rather that he turn from his evil way and live, I come to Thee although I have sinned and deserve only Thy wrath.  But I flee to Thy mercy in Christ Jesus, my Lord, who gave His body and His blood for my redemption.  Lord, grant that I may ever thus believe and never waver. Grant that in such faith I may worthily go to Thine altar to receive the very body and the true blood which Thy Son has given for my salvation, that I may duly praise, laud, and honor Thy love and Thy mercy all the days of my life.  Hear me for the sake of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, my Redeemer and Savior.  Amen.
